This passage is from my work in progress, the sequel to Double Alchemy. The book spans time before and after the events in DA and does not yet have a pub date or a final title.
This scene takes place on the first of three dances. The main character Juliette, an archivist who is randomly chosen to attend the ball, has many reasons behind her visit to the castle, such as seeing the man she’s been in love with since their university days.
Gabriel, however, has been acting strangely, and Juliette is determined to find out why.
